About AmbreXolide
AmbreXolide is an exclusive synthetic musk developed by Givaudan and commercialised in 2022. The company introduced it as a sustainable alternative to the widely used musk ambrettolide. Despite the resemblance between their names, it is a separate material from ambergris-type ingredients such as ambroxan or Ambrofix.
Scent Profile
Its musky character carries undertones of raspberry and pear. Givaudan describes the material as diffusive and substantive, combining a soft musky impression with the ability to support a lasting trail. The fruity facet sits within that musk character rather than behaving as a straightforward, prominent fruit accord.
Use in Perfumery
In a perfume, it can contribute to the foundation and continuing trail, linking flowers, fruit and woody materials through a soft musky texture. Diffusion and substantivity are properties of the ingredient, but their expression depends on the rest of the composition and the amount used. They do not, by themselves, establish a particular duration for a finished fragrance on every wearer.
Did You Know?
The manufacturing method follows Givaudan’s FiveCarbon Path programme and incorporates principles of green chemistry. The material was developed with both its olfactory role and its production route in mind, illustrating how modern musk research can combine a particular scent effect with changes in the way an ingredient is manufactured.
