About Ajwain

Ajwain is a spice derived from Trachyspermum ammi, a plant in the carrot family. Also known as ajowan or carom, its small fruits are commonly called seeds. Their distilled oil is used as an aromatic material.

Scent Profile

A dry, spicy note with a pronounced herbal edge reminiscent of thyme.

Use in Perfumery

It contributes a sharp herbal and spicy contour around floral or woody notes. Thymol is among the important constituents of its essential oil and helps account for its forceful character. A note name alone does not specify the amount or extraction method used in a perfume.

Did You Know?

Although its aroma can suggest thyme, ajwain belongs to a different botanical family. Sharing an aromatic constituent does not make two plants the same species.
