About Van Cleef & Arpels

Van Cleef & Arpels turns gemstones from static wealth into stories of flowers, animals, dance, and transformation. Perfume similarly avoids arranging materials as decoration. A color or texture is polished so that its expression changes on skin as though the direction of light had shifted.

History

The marriage of Alfred Van Cleef and Estelle Arpels joined two jewelry families. In 1906 Alfred and Estelle's brothers opened a boutique at 22 Place Vendôme. The house developed techniques that concealed settings and designs inspired by animals and dance, growing into an international maison. It entered fragrance in 1976 and opened a dedicated Salon des Parfums at its original address in 2022.

Philosophy & Signature Style

Jewelry's attention to color, transparency, and movement is transferred to florals, woods, resins, and spices. In the high-perfumery collection launched in 2009, a central ingredient is selected like a gemstone and its surrounding shades are adjusted without excessive ornament. Precise technique supports nature and imagined narrative. Visual elegance is not copied literally into smell; it is translated into a structure that changes over time and rewards proximity.

Iconic Fragrances

  • *Santal Blanc* — Sandalwood, fig, and musk create a soft white texture of timber.
  • *Moonlight Patchouli* — Patchouli, rose, and leather form cool, lunar shadow.
