About Stella McCartney
Stella McCartney is a luxury fashion house founded in 2001 by the London-born designer of the same name, who showed her first collection in Paris that October. From the start, the label has refused leather, fur, feathers and animal skins, turning its choice of materials into a defining part of its identity.
History
McCartney graduated from Central Saint Martins in 1995 and was appointed creative director of Chloé in Paris in 1997. In 2001 she launched her own label as a joint venture with Gucci Group, the company now known as Kering. After seventeen years of partnership, she bought back Kering's 50 percent stake in 2018 and became the sole owner of her brand. Over the years the house has added lingerie, kidswear, eyewear, menswear and a long-running performance line with adidas.
Philosophy & Signature Style
The collections are known for sharp tailoring paired with an easy, confident femininity. A lifelong vegetarian, McCartney has built environmental responsibility into the business through organic cotton, alternatives to animal leather and fur, and research into new materials such as leather grown from mycelium.
Iconic Fragrances
Stella, the first fragrance, arrived in 2003 and set an English garden rose against a warm amber base. It was created by perfumer Jacques Cavallier in association with YSL Beauté. POP followed in 2016, taking the house toward a lighter and more playful floral style.
