About Rochas

Rochas developed clothing that allowed young women to move more freely and perfume that turned affection into public creation across interwar and postwar Paris. Lace and construction, black and white, delicacy and audacity remain together without one being forced to resolve the other.

History

Marcel Rochas opened his couture house on Place Beauvau in 1925 at the age of twenty-three and moved to Rue Matignon in 1931. Experiments with perfume began in the 1930s, and fragrance became a central business in the 1940s, shaped in part by his relationship with his wife and muse Hélène. After Marcel's death in 1955, Hélène led the company and developed its international perfume presence. Interparfums now owns the brand.

Philosophy & Signature Style

Youth was not expressed through simplicity alone. Curved bodies, black lace, structured shoulders, and unexpected industrial materials could coexist. Perfume similarly uses florals, fruit, spice, and resins generously while giving them a silhouette clear enough to recognize. Stories of romance and a muse matter when they show the act of looking closely at another person and returning her freedom through the work, rather than serving as decoration. Richness and movement correct one another across both fashion and scent.
