About J-Scent
J-Scent looks beyond the cherry blossoms and temples often expected from Japan, turning food, bathing, fabric, cosmetics, sweets, and seasonal air known through ordinary life into perfume. The “J” is not one layer of exotic decoration; small familiar smells are observed from within the culture.
History
LUZ, led by founder and creator Tetsu Amada, entered the perfume business in 1998 and established its company in 2001. It built an internal team including perfumer, evaluator, planner, designer, director, and production specialists, alongside a Tokyo laboratory and factories including one in Shizuoka. J-Scent launched from that accumulated development and manufacturing knowledge in 2017. A United States branch followed in 2019 and an Italian operation in 2022, extending distribution abroad.
Philosophy & Signature Style
The process does not begin with a cultural symbol that needs illustration. It breaks down the odor of a place or habit and rebuilds it in a balance that can be worn. Nostalgia, humor, sensuality, and cleanliness all appear in the same collection, preventing Japanese identity from being reduced to quiet minimalism. Close domestic coordination from concept through evaluation and manufacture supports small revisions and reliable reproduction. The result can be immediately legible to someone who knows the reference while remaining an inventive perfume for someone encountering it without that memory.
