France
About Creed
Creed places a family narrative stretching from British tailoring to French perfumery at the center of its identity and built an international fragrance business in the late twentieth century. The house states a 1760 founding and seven generations of continuity. Independent documentation for the earliest perfume activity is limited, however, so the inherited story and the verifiable modern business history are best read as distinct layers.
History
The official account begins with James Henry Creed establishing a London tailoring concern in 1760 and later generations moving the house to Paris in the nineteenth century. Continuous public evidence for Creed as a perfume business becomes clear in the late 1960s and 1970s. Under Olivier Creed and his son Erwin, distribution and visibility expanded worldwide. Kering Beauté acquired the house in 2023, moving it into a new ownership structure while retaining involvement from the family.
Philosophy & Signature Style
Travel, tailoring, family memory, and movement between Britain and France are shaped into direct, persistent compositions. The house speaks strongly about natural materials and proprietary methods, while some historical commissions and individual authorship claims remain debated; the texture of the perfumes and the official narrative should not be treated as identical forms of evidence. In its modern identity, staged heritage, assertive diffusion, and a polished wearing experience work together. That combination matters more than repeating an unverified royal chronology as fact.
