About Calvin Klein

Calvin Klein has shaped an American idea of modernity through reduced clothing, images that address the body directly, and an editorial ability to turn ordinary garments into cultural statements. Fragrance is not treated simply as an accessory to fashion but as another medium for how society imagines who may wear what.

History

Calvin Klein and his childhood friend Barry Schwartz founded the company in New York in 1968. Beginning with coats, it expanded into sportswear, denim, and underwear, growing internationally through concise silhouettes and forceful visual communication. The company entered fragrance in 1978 and became part of PVH in 2003. Coty now operates the fragrance business under license.

Philosophy & Signature Style

Visual restraint coexists with advertising designed to produce tension and response. Citrus, lucid florals, herbs, musk, and woods are often arranged with clear edges, allowing the distance between skin and air to matter more than ornament. Rather than fixing a person inside one social role, the brand has repeatedly proposed cleanliness, intimacy, and self-presentation as qualities that can be shared. That continuity joins clothing and scent even as their individual forms change.

Iconic Fragrances

  • *CK One* — Citrus, green tea, florals, and musk create transparent cleanliness presented beyond a fixed gender category.
