About Aphorismes by Dominique Ropion
Aphorismes by Dominique Ropion is a perfume house launched in Paris in 2024, giving the perfumer a collection under his own name. It began with six fragrances, each approaching a familiar perfume family through a different combination of materials and a personal idea of balance.
History
The project grew out of Ropion’s relationship with Habib Al-Soweidi, whom he met through fellow perfumer Jean-Louis Sieuzac while working with clients from the Middle East. Their conversations eventually led to a personal collection and a small boutique on rue Marbeuf in Paris.
Philosophy & Signature Style
An aphorism expresses a thought in very few words, and the name reflects Ropion’s interest in giving each composition a clear identity. His aim is to revisit established fragrance families through new constructions, applying the same attention to proportion and harmony that informs his other work. Creative freedom makes room for fresh interpretations of flowers, citrus and woods, while the fragrances remain connected to materials he has explored throughout his career.
Iconic Fragrances
Innocent Tuberose approaches tuberose as a fresh flower, while Oud à l’Amour evokes oud without using the material itself. A Rose is a Rose gives rose an expansive setting with oud, offering another way to explore the relationship between flowers and woods within the collection.
